Instead of age i would like to have a chemistry Team Rating thats get affected, for example how long the team plays together and if a new player joins or leave the team. Which could also include the languages and so on.

@Simon Yes thats a serious questions, because i want to understand how the game works and i want to prevent buying dozens of old players carrying the Team within a few seasons to First League. Currently its not possible for me to compare a 16y old 650 Player with a 36y 480 Player. I cannot say which one is the better Player at the moment.

i don't think you are understanding the fix. you wouldn't directly compare the 16 yr old to the 36 yr old. it depends on who else you have in the team. e.g. if you have the 650 16 year old, and then ten 20 to 30 year olds bringing the average age to 24, then the 16 year olds age won't make any difference.

there is a chemistry rating which gets calculated during the match (and then recalculated whenever there is a sub). i could copy that processing into the fixture lineup screens as well I guess. I'll have a look tomorrow

I do understand the fix. Even If there are 10 identical players in the lineup, its hard to compare both players. And i do Not understand the AI Manager choices for their lineups.

If comparing individually, the player with higher overall is better. Age is irrelevant in that comparison. The managers choice is more complicated. They look at a combination of overall and experience, plus the quality of the opposition. If they are playing against weaker teams they'll try rotating in some less experienced or lower class players edited by admin on 11/10/2022

I think of it as a sim of real life. My sense of it (and supported by my results now I'm in season 2 with three teams) having played about with things is that it's like real life - fielding a balanced team with a mix of youth and experience while bringing rookies through in the background is the most effective approach. Veer too far one way or the other and results dip, which imho is how it should be.

This reminds me to Otto Rehagel: There are young and old players just good and worse. I sold one club and try to get more into the AI manager choices. Using two different strategies might help me to figure out my Future strategy.

Oof, just seen this thread, this will be brutal for my teams (average ages of 19, 20 and 21) but agree it's probably good for the game in the long run. Now if I can only just persuade my 51 year old goalkeeping coach to come out of retirement I'll only be a couple of years short ;) Edit: Without this change there's no real incentive to even look at players over the age of 21 given there are plenty of youngsters with the capacity to improve to a level beyond that of the more mature players who would want to sign for a very low status club. Focussing on youth and developing promising-but-inexperienced players will still be important, but it wouldn't be realistic in the long run for every lower league team to be made up of teenagers, while there's a whole database full of decent players rotting away as free agents in their prime. Just looked at the average age of National League (playing) teams and it's about 25. edited by longsands on 17/10/2022

You've got 2 transfer windows to sort your squad out @longsands. I'll put the fix in sometime in June 2024

Yes completely agree. I much prefer realism in sims, so much as the whole age vs. teen thing will set my squads back a touch initially (although looking at two of my teams we're going to need some seasons anyway, frankly), it is good for the game overall. There has to be a reason to sign a 28 year old, who still has plenty of seasons ahead. I have a couple of teen players who are almost carrying my teams and that isn't realistic. Thanks for your balanced post.

Question about this modifier - is it a fixed penalty if your average age is under 24, or is it a sliding scale? e,g, small impact if average age is 23, slightly worse if it's 22, slighty worse again if it's 21 etc.?

Sliding scale. Biggest deduction for average age 19 or under, then deductions reduce each year with 23 being the smallest edited by admin on 26/10/2022
