Player happiness

Hi, sorry posted this in the main discussion page, but it probably warrants its own thread. Do you have any guidance on player happiness? It makes a big difference in game (both to performance and to the chances of players resigning contracts), but there seems little we can do as owners to influence it. I guess regular game time would help most, but it doesn't always seem to have any impact. If we lowball them on an initial contract negotiation, are we then doomed to have them unhappy? Should we pay over the odds to keep them sweet? It would be helpful to have a field showing their preference (greed, regular game time, not wanting to be a sub, preferring not to play the whole 90, not liking foreign travel, preferring home/away legs, not wanting more than x matches per month etc.) as I'd like to engage with managing this. If Herbert Schaffer quits on me, I'll be sad, but not sure there is anything I can do at this point! I have started playing him and he scored in our last match but still very unhappy. Will it simply rise over time if I keep playing him, or is that not guaranteed? Apologies for the waffling question. You get the idea.

I asked about this a little before but it is still really tricky to get the happiness right I've found. The happiness only goes up every 3 months with development, so it's how much you play them over the 3 months that impacts their happiness. I've also found that happiness can nose dive really quick but it takes practically years to bring it back up. A LB and ST for South Shields had low happiness and despite playing them nearly every match and paying them decent wages, one is just above 500 and the other is barely above 400, and I'd say it's been a season or two, if not more, of trying to get it up. I'm not sure if there's more at work for it, like reputation of the club, or the league you play in, but it's definitely really tough to get back up once it goes down and all you can do is play them as much as possible and see what happens. I'm not sure if under or over paying makes a difference, as far as I can tell in my experience it doesn't make a big difference, but I could be wrong.

Thank you, that's helpful. My chap is a striker, he only turned 20 last month, we're in the promotion zone in a German regional league, I upped his wages from 1500 a week to 2500 a week in March of this year, he has been regularly on the bench but is recently a starter, he started and scored in our last match. I'll play him more now but the thing is his fitness isn't good enough to play endlessly, it's very up and down so I have to rotate him. Anyway, thank you for the response - I'll play him until the inevitable hamstring strain and see what he thinks at the next three month rotation. On a separate note - South Shields are storming away. I was runner up to you with Buxton in our first season, then didn't make it through the playoffs and have been struggling to catch up since, despite a promotion last season and likely up again this year. See you in the Premiership!

hmm - I think you raise a good point here. Since i started tinkering with fitness, I haven't re-adjusted player's match expectations so maybe that is the issue

A good percentage of my players are pretty unhappy with me, but fortunately only a handful are refusing to resign contracts, so far. Thank you for looking at it.

so having checked the code, happiness can only drop from not playing expected num of games or if you reject an improved contract request or transfer list request. i will update the expected num of games as fitness is not taken into account only injuries, so that should fix it going forward. to fix players already impacted by this issue i'lll just do a one off update to bring every player back up to the halfway mark

Thank you very much - I haven't been playing anyone with under 300 fitness where possible to try to stave off the tide of injuries, so hands were tied with some of them, including Schaffer.

I have a player I rotated out my team for a while who became unhappy and requested a transfer. If someone requests a transfer, is it still possible to win them back around by giving them plenty of game time, or do they just not want to play for the club anymore/best just to sell? I also have a few requesting loans - I'd be happy to loan them out but not for 12 months, but that's the only loan length AI clubs offer no matter what I specify in the loan listing. If it's an easy tweak to add some variation to length of loan offers that'd be great.

i thought i'd fixed the loan length thing so i'll have another look. if you reject a transfer request their happiness takes another hit. you can win them back by exceeding their expectations in game time though

Can we see their expectations or is that hidden?

its not expectations like in eBoxing. they are very relaxed. so if a player is more than 100 class better than the club then he expects to play in 60% of games in the last 3 months (minus any he was injured for). if between 50 and 100 better then its 50%, 0 - 50 better and its 40%, and if up to 50 class less than the club then they expect to play in 30% of games. Anything below that and they don't have any expectations.
